Ready for Kindergarten

Below you will find the questions listed on the White River enrollment forms for kindergarten. They are not requirements to attend school but indicators that your child may be ready for kindergarten. These skills are things we focus on in our PreK program to ensure the best start possible for your little learner. 

Readiness Checklist

  1. Can recognize their name

  2. Takes care of toileting and self-care needs

  3. Can hold a writing implement properly

  4. Listens to short stories and can answer simple questions

  5. Can follow 2-step simple direction

  6. Speech is easily understandable

  7. Demonstrates cooperative play skills (sharing, taking turns)

  8. Can sit quietly in a group for 5 minutes

  9. Puts together a simple puzzle 

  10. Shows curiosity about learning

  11. Enjoys being read to

  12. Offers comments while in a group

  13. Knows how to zip and button

  14. Can use scissors properly 

  15. Parent or guardian reads to the child daily

 

Skills the school will check for

Can your child... 

Use the following tools: paper, crayons, books, scissors, shoe laces, puzzles, pencil, snaps, zippers, buttons

Identify the following colors: red, blue, green, orange, purple, black, yellow, white

Identify the following shapes: square, rectangle, rhombus, triangle, cylinder, cone, cube, circle, sphere

How high can your child count?
